Anne Abgott's "Simply Daring Color" begins with an exercise in "color mingling", her signature technique of controlling what your paint does on the paper. Rather than mixing watercolor in a palette, Abgott prefers to let the paint mix on the paper, creating rich hues and bold color tones. Working from her own color photographs, she first turns them into black and white value studies which she says, "Tells me how much paint to apply and where to apply it."
Best known as the "Mingling Method" painter, Abgott says, "Water is the railway tracks that the paint moves on." Her approach to teaching is very systematic with each and every step building up to the final painting of "Silver Vase and Cherries" pictured on the DVD's cover.
During the two hours of teaching, Abgott covers her material choices, color mingling, painting backgrounds, scaling and setting up still-life's, getting in and getting out of a painting and watercolor control and shadows. Regardless of your chosen subject matter, be it still-life or landscape, Anne's techniques can be readily applied and will assure each of us learning artists a good measure of success.
